Porcellio laevis may be the most common isopod in the hobby. This species is present on every continent apart from Antarctica. They tolerate a wide range of temperatures, but prefers temperatures below 25°C
They are very popular as a clean-up crew since they are very prolific, a brood containing an average of 66.6 mancae . When threatened they flee, putting them in the “runner” category .
Compared to isopods from other genera, they may need more protein, which can be supplied with fish food, or dried mealworms
