This isopod originates from Southeast Asia, most likely Vietnam. It was not clearly identified before entering the terrarium hobby, but it is generally placed in the genus Cubaris.
Diet:
It accepts a wide range of foods, including vegetables, fish flakes, algae, and dried mealworms (which should be given in moderation due to relatively low protein requirements). It also appears to appreciate spirulina.
Like all isopods, it requires access to a calcium source.
Behavior:
This species benefits from a relatively deep substrate, as it tends to burrow. It is therefore normal for individuals to remain hidden for periods of time.
It is also capable of volvation (rolling into a ball) when threatened and may remain in this position for a while.
