Porcellio scaber is a widely kept species in the hobby, with many morphs available. Its rough pereon gives it a distinctive charm.
It is a hardy and easy-to-keep species, capable of adapting to a wide range of environments, as shown by its presence on every continent except Antarctica.
Sometimes described as a clinger, it exhibits thanatosis (a defensive immobility behavior). Although it can burrow, it generally prefers to settle under existing shelters.
